Background of Shajahanpur Upazila
It is said that in the sixteenth century, pirates in the guise of fishermen would occasionally come to the Karatoya river at midnight. He used to loot in this area. As a result, the name of all these towns became Majhira. In the first half of the seventeenth century, Sube-Bangla informed Emperor Shah Jahan in Agra about this problem. The emperor immediately sent an army here to set up an army camp. The Mughal army filled up 25/30 feet of soil on the east side of the Dhaka-Bogra highway 800 yards north of this upazila headquarters and made a high mound at Sahan and set up an army camp. So that from that high mound any movement or movement of pirates can be noticed in the vast area. Thanks to the generosity of the pious emperor, the people of this town got rid of terror and robbery. The whole area is called Shajahanpur or Sajapur after the name of the Mughal emperor.Following this, the name of this upazila is Shajahanpur Upazila.
